As a result of the need for a way to address, amend and regulate the increasing problems in our community, concerned residents formed the Wyandanch Community Development Corporation (WCDC) in 1969. Incorporated in 1971 as a not for profit 501(c) (3) organization, the agency maintains a diversified Board of Directors. Members included Educators, Entrepreneurs, Mid-Management Personnel, Bankers, Realtors and Residents of Wyandanch.
In 1981, WCDC was reincorporated as a Local Development Corporation. Board members decided to concentrate on neighborhood revitalization and preservation. Since reincorporating, WCDC has acquired and rehabilitated properties for rentals to low to moderate-income families. An Affordable ownership program was created for first-time buyers.
WCDC institute an effective formal referral system to other housing and non-housing service organizations. WCDC implemented a comprehensive housing counseling program, which assist in combating further debasement in our community. In addition to these ongoing programs and projects, staff members are active with other community-based boards and committees.
